Warsaw Security Forum 2015

The Warsaw Security Forum addresses these issues with help of international experts specialising in security. They gather with the purpose of exchanging professional experiences as well as presenting solutions to complex regional security challenges facing the Central and Eastern European region. The two-day forum will consist of numerous plenary sessions dedicated to security issues, particularly those related to the future of NATO; the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union as well as the Polish direction of army modernisation, including relations with the Russian Federation; energy security; immigration and fundamentalism challenges in Europe; cybersecurity and new threats in the field of hybrid war, security in the economic, military and politic dimensions. The WSF2015 will take place on the 5th and 6th November 2015 in Warsaw, Poland.

Conference partner is the Centre, which organised the panel: Rise of Illiberalism and Russian Involvement in EU Politics.

Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the proxy war in Donbas resulted in the consolidation of the European Union embodied by the policy of sanctions. Russia has responded with purposeful multi-instrument efforts to exert influence and weaken the determination of Europeans – either through the use of propaganda buying off some EU member states providing “financial assistance” to far-right, anti-EU political parties. What is the end goal of the Russian Federation in Europe? How effective is Russia in undermining EU cohesion? What kind of influence, in both short-term and long-term is it exerting on domestic European politics? Can the dream of an “Illiberal Europe” – politically fragmented, weak and corruption-friendly – come to being? Will Europe meet the challenge?
